You get the 'deep' in the sound by using larger pipe.
Of course the muffler controls the volume and does have an effect, but pipe size has a lot to do with the tone.

Turbo mufflers are good sounding, but they can tend to be on the quiet side.

If I was working on an I6 with cast manifolds and single exhaust, I might try this:
Single down pipe of whatever size the manifold uses.
Then a reducer cone installed backward to go from down pipe size to 3". I would increase pipe size right after the pipe straightened out under the car.
Then a 3" turbo just before the rear axle.
After this you could just turn the pipes down after the muffler...
    or
Reduce to 2.5" and go out the back...
    or
Reduce to 2.5" and split the pipes for 2 out the back...

For even more sound, without spending a lot of dough, you could use a 3" Dynomax race bullet where the turbo muff would have been.
These are just under 40 bux at Summit, and flow like open pipe.
I would stay away from glasspacks or cherry bombs with an I6. They tend to make a fart sound.

My pep boys receipt dated 6/25/93 shows I have the "cherry bomb turbo" mufflers. The pipe is 2 1/2" from the reducer, on the header, back. They sound deep and are not too much at idle.(y) (when it was running last:( )

The price was $23.97 then. They told me they had a lifetime warranty. I just might go and try my reciept out and see if it has any value.:drink:

My only suggestion with a 6 cylinder would be get the quietest exaust you can. ;)

Im goin to buy the raptor one made by i think magna flow, they are about 15 or 20 at kragen. My dadsfriend has them on his mustang and they sound very deep but he doesnt have any pipe after the mufflers he just has the inlet connected.I think i will be buying these tomorow or the day after, when i do i'll upload a vid.I wish i had a vid of my uncles 200 is sounds soo good cant even tell its a 6, cant remeber what he did but it was something like using a diesel type muffler then adding something that makes it louder,i'll ask him when he comes by.
I might have some pics on the PC let me look for them...

Nope dont have the underside pics,But know that i think about it, i think he used a bigger pipe after the muffler cant tell what size but heres a pic.

Spoke with my uncle and this is what he did:
    (sounds like daves idea)

Started off with the stock 2" pipe coming from the manifold down below the car about 2',then he used a reducer backwards to make the pipe to 2 1/2", the muffler he used was the Flowmaster(40-S) that they make for firebird/camaros where it has one inlet and two 2 1/2 outlets, then he finished it with a 3 1/2" (6"s long) tip on the 2 1/2 pipes.

Actually i think some falcons look better than some mustangs, i cant belive how long its been since i've seen his falcon he sent it to the paint shop a while ago.I remember when he used to live with us and i always saw his spending so much time on his cars i used to think he was crazy spending so much time on it even sleeping in it sometimes....Look at me now:D
