Did a search and came up with 56.5" from outside of drum to outside of drum. Correct? Got a line on a Maverick 5 lug 8" rear cheap, so I want to verify.

It's pretty bad when I'm buying V-8 parts even before I get a Maverick! I guess I can always sell it if I don't find a Maverick.

Yeah, but if you get a Granada/Monarch rear, you can fit more tire under there if you are using old-school wheels. Those are 58" and the spring perches are in the right place. The stock axle is a bit snug to the frame rail.

Why are you buying an axle before you get a car? ... screamin' cheap deal?... if so, go for it ... street rod guys love Mav axles ... old cars are really narrow.

    Rear End Specs

Here are all the Rear End specs for a factory Maverick Rear End. This is the build sheet for the rear end I just got from Currie. It is a 9" housing built to exact specs for a Maverick. Hope this helps more than just one person.

I see what you are saying, use a wider axle, more BS on the wheel? I'm kind of leaning towards the Magnum 500 look or a set of old school torque thrust D's if I get one. If I really get bored, I'll pro street it with a real set of meats under it!

I think it is coming out of a streetrod. Guy is also trying to sell a TH400, GM tranny.
$50 screamin' enough for ya! :thumbs2: Picking it up Sat. morning.

that would be an interesting discussion topic to say the least. something tells me this thread would have a lot more replies, though.

What cars rear end with a ford 9" would be a direct bolt on without moving any mounts for the springs or anything else looking for a rear end but cant seem to find one out of a maverick.

Those rears are all the same width, which is WIDER than a Maverick.
    However, they bolt right in...

There are several others that bolt right in also, but they are significantly wider than stock.

*The Maverick never came with a 9" rear.

with the fact you pretty much have to cut it anyway, what would you have to cut on a truck rear end as opposed to the mustang one? rear ends are one of the less experience pieces i have but there are so many truck nines and so few of the needed car ones?

The axles that Ratio lists are an OK fit in a Mav ... about two inches wider overall, which places the rear tire more in the center of the wheelhouse. From the factory, ours are a bit too snug inboard. With these axles, you could get more rear tire in there while still using old-school wheels. These axles also already have the spring perches in the right places.

Truck axles would get pretty involved ... the bolt pattern is bigger or even six bolts (different axles) ... need to narrow ... weld spring perches on it. I believe all truck axles are 31 spline, too.

yeah i know they would have to be narrowed but so would any car one that isnt listed by ratio, and possilby some of the ones he did list as well? same for perches? the bolt pattern could be the main problem with them, dont know why i didnt think of that, since i tried putting the spare exploder rims i have on a bronco and they didnt fit :slap:

65-66 Mustangs had an 8" Only the Shelby (and maybe the K code cars?) came with a 9" Good luck finding that in a bone yard :D

VERY few Granada/Monarch's came with 9" rears. The 9" was for the Lincoln Versailles, and a few got pulled from the assembly line when 8" ran short on inventory. I've got a Versailles 9" in my '66 GT Fastback. The money I spent on it is not worth it these days. That is old school technology since there are so many rear disc options for 8" and 9" rears these days for a lot less. Check out Mustang Steve (Google him) and you can find adaptor kits for '94 to '04 Cobra brakes to Mustang and Maverick rears and spindles. Only drawback is that you will have to run 17" wheels.

EDIT: Don't forget having to have that Cobra Spare tire too! That's another $200 off of E-bay!
