radiator fan

    does anyone know what is the difference in a 5 blade or 6 blade or 7 blade fan. and what fan came stock on a strait 6 motor

    Mine came with a 4 blade fan... (comet -74, straight six)

    The more blades there are, the more air they move and the more HP they take to turn.

    not always...a guy had a 6 blade on and it ran hot...switched to a
    4 blade and it cooled down...blade pitch was different.

    There are fixed fans like the 4 blade fan.

    Flex fans like most 5 blades. Where the blade is flexible and flattens out as rpms increase. I think the design or theory is that it reduces drag when spun faster?

    Clutch fans, those that have a thermal clutch.

    Ford fans also come in different diameters. 17 inches up to at least 18-1/4 inches.

    Ford installed certain fans based on equipment such as air conditioning, engine size, radiator size, heavy duty or extra cooling, etc.

    I am just stating general Ford here, I am not schooled in the specific Comet/Maverick parts yet.
