A 1970 Mustang 302 Radiator is an exact fit for a Maverick or Comet .... make sure it is the standard 20" wide version ... not the 24" wide version ..... that is what I installed in my Grabber. Early Mustangs have the water inlet/outlet on the passenger side. The fill cap is also not in the center. Mavericks need to have the inlet on the driver side and outlet on the passenger side. Those look like aluminum radiators. As long as the inlet/out is the same and it is 20" wide it shoud work.
Earlier Stang radiators bolt right in as well, but remember the lower radiator hose fitting will be on the wrong side. The stock versions will also not have a flange for the fan shroud. These problems can be overcome, but wanted to give a heads up. Dave
That ebay stang radiator looks like it would be fine in my car. The hoses are even in the right spot. Top on passenger side, bottom driverside. Looks like a direct bolt up, unless the picture is wrong.
Dmhines i read in one of your post that Giffen made custom aluminum radiators for mavericks but the price was a little to pricely did you ever order one? I would like to try an Aluminum Radiator how good are they?
Don't recall that post ... but if it is a 20 inch wide made for a 70 Mustang 302 it will fit perfect. Keep in mind most aluminum radiators will not work with a Factory Fan Shroud ...
anyone have any luck fitting in anything bigger then a 20 inch? or is it not worth the effort? EDIT: oh yeah, one more thing, is there any alternatives for an affordable radiator, then the 150 dollar 2 core ones i see at a parts store?
hummm i know i read something about an aluminum radiator on the board or was it some where else but sorry about that dmhines. Your info is very helpfull thu thanks Iam going to try a mustang rad that is no more then 20 inchs wide with the in/out lets in the same place as the maverick rad and see how it goes hope it will work. The 70 mustang you are talking about is the MACH 1?
I have been watching that site...I could really use an aluminum radiator. Anyone know if aluminum in the stock size could keep a 450HP car cool under all driving conditions (hot, traffic, etc)? I want it to stay as cool as my Ram Truck, always the same temp, so I can stop even looking at that guage. I would be willing to go a little wider, but would rather keep the stock look if possible.
I have a fairly clean 3-row brass right now, and the temps slowly creep up to around 200 during a warm 85 degree drive of 30 minutes. Typically, it runs 180 with the occassional 190, but right now, on the highway, I have hit 210. I want 180 all the time, whatever the weather, whatever the drive. And, I think I am only at 180-200 HP, so I fear what will happen when I hit 350-400.
The early Stangs with 6s had the hose fittings in the right position, but they are much smaller than the hoses for a V8. If you can afford the lower flow, a 6 rad will work without changing water pumps. My .02 Dave
