I think it looks decent on my Sprint (when I bought it, the white letters were out), but wouldn't even consider it on any of my others.
I put them on my 74 LDO with Magnums. But as stated above, there are certain wheels or cars I wouldn't like them on.
Most of the time, I prefer blackwalls, because white letters can distract from other things about the car, but I do like white letters only in very specific combos. Here's an old picture of a Torino I used to own ... Similar color to yours and Cragars. I think it works because of the dark color and the white letters are smaller solid letters. If they were larger outline letters, I think it would cease to be a good thing.
white letters look good on some cars and they have to be sitting still. when white letter tires are rolling they look like "curbed whitewalls". ......
White letter tires were available from the factory on cars from around 1969 to the mid seventies. I suppose it's nostalgia. I have them on my '70 Maverick. They look good on cars from that time period, but when you see them on older or newer cars, they stick out out like white shoes and polyester shirts!
In my opinion, the best look for the cars of the early 70's era is BFG T/A radials, white letters out, and Magnum 500's. Five of my cars, including the Sprint Maverick, have them. I also like other vintage wheels with white letters out, as long as the tire doesn't have large letters. Jim
With Cragars.....I would go with raised white letters as long as they are small letters. I hate HUGE raised white letters on a tire.
i like the white lettering myself just wasn't sure on mav's... i'm at school getting some author research done lol.. it's 2nd period english class got one tab with reseach open and the tab is the forums
I like the look of raised white letter tires. I believe they were standard, part of the Grabber option the the Maverick in 1974. I still have the orginal Goodyear D70-14 Polyglass spare in the trunk of my car. I believe the white letter tires were part of the performance look on "pony" back in the day. I don't remember a Maverick Grabber with just black walls or a white wall tires from the factory although it is possible. Today they just use them on trucks.
I agree with the others who said it depends on the car and it depends on what wheels you are running. I like the Raised whites on my wifes Fairmont with Magnums!
