Hi there. I don't know a WHOLE lot about cars to begin with, but my Dad and I were thinking my Maverick would look pretty sweet with a slight rake in the back. I've been looking on the internet for advice on how to do this but I can't seem to find anything that can help me out. I figured you guys might know a thing or two about it... or where I could atleast find some info on it. Thanks!:bananaman
There are tons of ways to do it and everyone will tell you what they think is the best. One thing to NOT do is put long shackles on the rear leafs. The simplest way would be to just put bigger tires on the back and smaller on the front. Lowering the front end by cutting a coil out of the front springs works nicely and can improve your handling too as long as you do it properly. How are your and/or your dads mechanical skills?
He knows quite a bit about cars, but he wanted me to look it up on the computer just so that we could try and do it the proper way. He suggested lowering the front end, but I think the car is too low to the ground to begin with. My sister had this car before me, and I remember her saying that she wanted to put bigger tires on it, but the people at the tire store had told her that it would be hard to without doing modifications. Were these people just stupid and is it actually possible? I'd like to do something that will improve the look and not make it a rougher ride than it already is without spending a fortune.
My Mav has a slight rake to it, even though my rear susspension is a bit sagged do to really old leafs. I have big tires in the back and smaller ones up frount. The rears are 255/60/15, and the frounts are 235/60/15. The rears don't quite fit, so i had to put on some wheel spacers and they work fine no rubbing at all. So on mavs since they have the nice big wheel wells it works out pretty good for the rake actually.
The difference in those tires would give you about 1/2" of lift in the back. New 4 leaf springs from springsnthings.com give you about 2-3" of lift. Think they're about $110 a set. Or like someone else said you can cut the front coils too.
