Looks like the real thing, with a realistic $1800 starting bid and no reserve. No excuses for you guys out there that always wanted a Grabber! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6057&item=4511003325&rd=1 This auction looks familiar. Have we seen this one before?
Wow!!! I about fell out of my chair looking at car, except for the bench seat, and inline six, it looks like the same Grabber that I sold Dave M. (MaverickGrabber) this summer. Color scheme and all!! I have to admit, that color scheme really grew on me, I hated to part with it. Wish I had room for another. At this rate, I don't think I will ever recover from this addiction to these cars!
So what's the story, Did Ford spray the satin/low gloss black over the body color under the hood in the earlier yrs? Is that lime/yellow/green that is showing through just overspray prior to painting the engine compartment? My '74 GT had no black anywhere except the hood stripe and taillight panel. Even the taillight panel was red under the black. Seth
I didn't even know that Ford did Mav engine compartments black after 1970. But that 72 Grabber with white interior with only 33,000 miles on it that Dave and I parted out had a blacked out engine compartment. My 71 Grabber did not have a blacked out engine compartment ... actually ... most 71 and up cars don't have a blacked out engine compartment ... at least that I have seen ... I think that yellow one on eBay had a previous owner paint it black ... there ain't no way factory applied paint would have flaked that bad ....
I've owned at least 25 Mavericks over the last 30 years and have never even seen one with a black engine compartment here on the Gulf Coast.
My 71 is a KC car ... red engine compartment. For those with black engine compartments ... do you see a common option that would cuase the factory to paint the engine compartment black? ( i.e. V8, color combo, buckets, etc ...) My 1971 was red with black/yellow stripes, bench interior, 200 engine, Automatic, red engine compartment ..
Dan I don't know for sure but I have ben told all 71 and 72 Kansas city cars had satin black under the hood. I have 1 72 Comet GT black under the hood and 1 72 Comet 2 door orginal tan car with tan under the hood. I quess I need to see where they were made.
