the other day my mav spent an after noon in the rain :slap: but when i opened the trunk i noticed the rear quarters were almost full of water. more on the passenger side than dr side but there was non in the trunk pan its self. since I have really solid quarters (held all that water didnt they? lol) I wouldnt want to see anything happen to them. one of the first things i did to the car was give the entire trunk a coat of oil based rustolem paint. My first and only thought is that the trunk weather stripping is worn out, i dont think its comming through the rear window since nothing under it was wet inside the trunk. Any recomendations on a replacment? I dont think i know of anything other than auto krafters

crawl inside the truck and have a friend with a water hose and see where its coming from then go from there...might be weatherstriping

:biglaugh: I think my friend will be the one being locked in the trunk with a flashlight, not me

you should have holes down in that well. that keeps tht from happening.

Look and make shure that the drains in the bottom of the well are not clogged with dirt and dibris. That is the main reason that the quarters rust out. Also do what the others said and do the trunk seal leak test.

I'm betting you find the back glass to be leaking in the lower bottom corners. Check and see if the gasket around the glass is cracked and dried out.

Also get a cover if it sits outside...mine does most of the time. Only take a minute or so to take off and on.. I found about a 1/4" chunk of lower window modling rubber out of mine, got w/s sealer and filled it all in.

Saving up money for a Comet. Again.
    drip drip, time to re-strip.

I'm far from an expert, but to throw my 2 cents at you, I think it's weatherstripping, I had a really rough problem with that on my Comet in about a million places- didn't realize how bad it was until I went through one of those seedy automatic carwashed and discovered my car became a driving slosh bucket. If your car lives outside like mine, then a carcover will pay for itself it's definitely worth it!

My car didn't have drain holes in the quarters (do any?) so I drilled a 1/4" hole in each well towards the front then painted the area with POR 15. Any water drains right out now.

Neither my '72 nor my '74 Grabber have them. I know this because I removed the interiors of both cars and hosed out the interior of the body front to back with antibacterial soap and water to get the nastyness out (mice sure do make a horrible mess in cars that are sitting for long periods). I had to drill holes in both cars to let the water drain out of the lower quarters.

I have seen the chrome trim from the boom-a-rangs to the lower rear window not properly sealed. The mounting holes can let water in also......
