    OK,
So I'm putting the small rear bumper on my '74, and I want to put the inner brackets inside the trunk, I remember someone saying something about using Mustang Reproductions.
I have the new "NPD" catalog, but I need to know what year I should order? 1967-68??:49:

I don't know, but I would sure like to see pictures when you get done.

I did the small bumpers on my 74, and the rear sticks out a little too far. I would like to find out how to tuck it a little closer, and wonder if what you are doing will do that...

I used 67-68 Mustang Brackets in my 74 ... they aren't identical to the Maverick brackets but work fine ....

Scooper ... we are referring to the brackets that weld onto the trunk floor ... so they have no affect on how far the bumper sticks out the back ... Perhaps you have 73 brackets instead of 70/72 brackets ...

Mine came off a 72 grabber, with the small bumpers. it just sticks out about 1/2" too far, maybe 1/4". Just enough to look out of place. you can see in the pic how it looks like there is too much space between the car and the bumper. Maybe they all look that way, I have never seen another small bumper mav up close. but I don't like it.

EDIT--this is a VERY old picture. I have all new rear suspension and springs, no more shackles, and those tires are now completely bald.

The '73 rear bumper is the same as the others, but it sticks out more. You could go for the '73 look? :)

I was at the roundup, but I was too overwhelmed by all the cars and people, and the racing, to focus on bumper brackets :90:

Took pictures of lots of other things, though, like tires, rims, paint, engine bays, seats, dashboards, burnouts, wheelies, etc.

I guess I meant to say "I have never seen the bumper brackets on a small bumper car" :D

Did the 73-to-72 brackets change the "tightness" of the fit?

The 73 brackets are much beefier than the 70-72 and push the bumper away from the car by at least 3/4"

Didn't 73's have rubber spacers between the body and the bumper? I have some rubber spacer like things that came with a load of Maverick parts once, but I've never had a 73 ?? I should see if I can find them.

THAT would explain the 3/4" space between my bumper and car...except that mine are from a 72 grabber?!?!

So, if I find an earlier bumper bracket, I should be fine?

I would say so. Can you take a picture looking down at the gap between the tail light panel and the bumper? Include the mounting bracket if you can. I should be able to tell if its a 73 bracket.

Dave, I never really looked that closely at the 73 mounting system so I dont know if there are any rubber spacers or not. I got a local friend who has a 73 so maybe I can get by his house in the next few days and check it out.
