I did a search and found that someone used the rear bumper brackets from CJ Pony Parts for the small back bumper conversion. My qustion is, are these already sized for the bolt holes that the small bumper comes with? Also they look different, meaning they don't look like they extend into the trunk floor. Will these work well? Or is there a different source for the more "correct" brackets? I want to order them from somewhere soon, and just want to know the best way. Thanks guys.
You must be looking at the wrong part ... it looks almost identical to the Maverick part if it's the right one. Have a link?
are you looking for the bracket that holds th bumpr to the car or the brackets on the inside of the trunk? the piece that welds to the floor inside the trunk interchanges with mustangs but i think the actuall bumpr brackets holding it to the car are diffrent
Yes Im looking for the part that welds to the trunk floor here is a link http://www.maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=22937&highlight=pony+parts Post #5
Oh one more question before I forget. Is there any alignment specs out there of where they get welded to the floor? I will use the trial and error route if I have to, but just thought I'd ask. Thanks again
it shows them for two different year specs M298 =67/68 M398 = 69/71 I'll probably just order 2 of the M298's
Sorry ... yes M298 ... I thought they were left and right ... but you need 2 M298's .. When I installed them in my 74 ... I just aligned them directly with the holes in the trunk floor that have the rubber inserts installed. These holes are aligned directly with the frame rail under the trunk floor. I lined them up .. posititioned them against the rear panel and then welded them in. I then drilled through the holes in the mount through the rear panel. The holes aligned with the Maverick bumper mounts and centered the bumper perfectly with the factory bolts.
