    Hey everyone,

I have a rear end out of a 1967 Mercury Cougar that I will be using in my Maverick. Im not concerned about overall width however I would like to seek advice on weather this joker's spring perches are good to go for my car. The Cougar's rear end perch measurement is 43.00"-43.25" c2c. I would also like to know what the proper pinion angle is... tolerances I guess is more like it.

    Thanks everyone,
    Kyle

Maverick spring perchs are 42 3/4" center to center by my measurement and 2 1/2" wide. Sounds like the cougar is just a tad too wide.

remeasure your car just to be sure. i have always been led to believe they are the same. doesnt hurt to recheck all dimensions.

definately check them cause the 67-68 cougar body was wider, but the wheelbase could have been close

The spring pad centers on 65-70 Stangs, 67-70 Cougars, and all Mavs are 43".
They are direct swaps as far as the placement and angle of the spring perches are concerned.
It is the overall width that is different from year to year and model to model.

Edit: Depending on exactly what axles/bearings the 9" is using, you may need larger U-bolts and shock plates for larger axle tubes.
The springs are still 2.5" though on all.

Well, I guess 1/4 inch may or may not make a difference but I measured 42 3/4". Thats the dimensions I sent to Currie to build my 9" and it fit perfectly.

I like about 3 degrees pinion angle for street and up to 6 for racing. Just make sure you are within +/1 degree of the transmission end and you should be fine. Helped a friend with a Vega a couple of years ago. He set up the rear end before doing the 350 swap. Ended up with 3 degrees difference between the rear end and transmission and it had some weird wheelhop on launch. Went away after getting it back to 1 degree different of the transmission - 4 degrees total.
