Hello everyone I recently purchased 5 lug rearend for my 71 maverick and had some questions. I was told by the seller that it was pulled from a 4 door mav. The rearend was all pulled apart and everything looked good except for some light surface rust. If someone could let me know what would be the best way to clean the housing out. I would also would like to what parts I should look at replacing before putting it back together.

Well...the best way is to have it "hot-tanked" in solvent. Most machine shops can do this.

I would replace the axle bearings and seals, and all of the brake components.

if it hasn't been left out in the rain, "some light surface rust" wouldn't concern me on those parts. are you planning on changing the gear ratio?

So I shouldn't worry about a the light surface rust in the inside of the housing? If someone could post a link to the bearings and seals for the axles I would be thankful. I couldnt find any online on summit racing and i dont plan on changing gear ratios. Car only has i6 :)

Your local autoparts stores carry them (or can order them). The axle bearings are all made in China. It doesn't matter what brand they are. Timken, SKF, National Bearing, etc. The seals will be made in Mexico or perhaps even in the U.S.

    I got mine at NAPA.
