Back in the day we were able to determine the rear end ratio by marking both the tire and the driveshaft and counting the number of revolutions of the driveshaft after one revolution of the tire. My question is. does this procedure work with an open type rear, or only with a locker or posi type rear?
I thought so too, but I had a guy tell me that it wouldn't work with an open rear. I'm pretty sure that back in the day we used to do this and most of us had open rears. Just wanted to make sure that my memory was correct. Thanks.
You have to turn both wheels for a accurate ratio check. If only one is turning the spider gears will affect reading. I'm yet to see any Mav/Comet factory gear other than 2.79(most) or 3.00(A/C) gears. Ratio code on door sticker.
