We got the mav's future engine in a fox body right now. It ran a 11.11 on street tire's spinning 3/4th of the way down the track. The motor is insane once the boost kicks in, and it drive's like a mild engine when not in boost. I love it! I need a rear end though. I have an explorer rear end that i wanna use. I have a question about the spring perches though. After I weld them on do I need to get the housing straightened? And how is that done?
I think if you pre-heat the circumference of each side as you weld it you should be fine. I've seen a lot of those perches welded without any precautions taken, but if it were mine, I'd preheat it. I'm sure someone else on here will chime in.
i would streighten it. we do it after welding on any housing. every time they are bent. if you run the weld a full 360 degrees around the tube i may not bend. thats the only way ive seen it done where it wont bend. when i see this doen there is a strip of metal around the housing welded to it to give the surface to do the 360 degree weld.
housing That will probably depend on yoru welding techniques. I would believe that if your are using the correct amount of heat, surfaces are clean, and you alternate side to side allowing for a cool down in between, you would not warp the housing. It would be a little time consuming, but should prevent the heat build up that could warp the housing. Short stich type beads , with the proper wire speed and temp should do the job. Wire size would be a factor here as well, I assume you will be mig welding?
i have seen all kinds of welding on diffs. if you dont put enough heat into the weld they will usually brake. the stock tubes are too thin to not warp from the heat.
