hi in my maverick i have 7.5 rear end ,and i went to replace it to 8.8 . what is the car and year come with this axle
rear axle This won't be a bolt-in. 8.8s of a close width to a Mav axle will be 4 link rears out of Fox body cars (Mustang). You will need to have spring perches welded on, and the existing brackets will probably have to be cut off. Ignore the next statement in brackets, correction below[A Turbo T-bird axle comes with 5 bolts instead of the (ugh) four bolt set-up on the other cars.] If your car is a four bolt axle Mav, the newer Fox four bolts are a different pattern, so you can not use your existing wheels on these. An easy 5 bolt fix for a Fox rear is to grab two driver side axles and brakes from a Ranger pickup and swap them in. Ranger axles are assymetrical and the passenger side axles will not work, wrong length. Anybody know if the width on an entire Ranger rear is close for a Mav? Just guessing, I am thinking they would be too narrow ...
Turbo TBirds Dang! Your right. I thought for some reason that 87-88s went to 5 bolts. Sorry for the wrong info. These had been on my shopping list... I was probably blinded by the nice gear ratio (3.55 or 3.73), posi and disc brakes to be had there. I just got more details, and they are roughly 4 inches wider overall than a Mav axle, so only the gear ratio would really help. V8 Fox Mustangs should all be posi 8.8s from '86 on but most have pretty long-legged gears. (2.73 to 3.08)
Thats a common mistake i gues. I thought thay were, till i bought one and went home and popped the center cap off.
