I would like to make a new rear seat insulated seperator ... has anyone come across similar material to the factory stuff so I could use an old one as a template to make a new one? I know some folks use the silver stuff but I am looking for something to replicate the factory black material.

    Thanks ...

Let me know when you find out! Strange stuff kinda like thick roofing felt.

Dan; you could use some of the hard pressboard, and paint it black or glue some of the tarpaper/roofing felt to it. I'm gonna do that. I looked in a lot of cars, and I have yet to find a good one. Seems like it deteriorates pretty bad as it gets older.

Nice stuff. But a bit pricey. I guess you get what you pay for. Is the rubber stuff the original trunk matt, and does it mold to the floor with heat?

Go to the main website ... he sells lots of stuff ...

Here are all the different colors and patterns of trunk mat vinyl ...

    http://cfmmats.com/Trunk_Mat_Patterns1.htm

The problem I have seen with Trunk Mats is that they do not match the spatter paint in the trunk. If you look at the patterns (there are 3 pages) you will see most Maverick and Mustang mats come in either #13 or #18 on his pattern list. The speckles are too large and not the correct shade of grey. I already had a plaid trunk mat in the 74 car. I ordered a roll of #11 which he calls Light Gray Spatter and used my 74 mat as a template. When you look in my trunk it takes a while to realize that I have a mat in there becuase it matches the spatter paint almost perfectly.

Do a search on Maverick Trunk Mat on eBay and you will see that none of the patterns really match the speckle paint correctly.

I know there was a discussion about this awhile back (trunk mats)...and I have been meaning to respond back.

The 1973 I am parting out still had the factory vinyl trunk mat in it. It was "vacuum" formed...not cut like the repops.

Yeah ... we were talking about the Comet GT that was for sale at the Ford Plant Show in Atlanta. I knew I wasn't nuts when I said I saw a vacuum formed mat in the trunk! :)

Dan home depot has heavy weight roofing felt that closely resembles the insulation you are looking for and heat seals it in well...I have used it for same thing before...Jim

Cool ... is the roofing felt wide enough to cover using a single piece? I thought roofing felt came in like 18" rolls?

You may need to go to a roofing supply company to find the heavier weight felt or special order it.

Just go to a roofing contractor and see if they will sell you a 4 foot piece of it. No need to buy an entire roll. :D
