Next month I am buying a set of caltrans to get rid of the slapper bars. also I am FINALLY ditching the Airshocks. now looking at the pic I have attached. it shows my shocks non staggered inboard mounted I assume. Also I have 3 leaf springs. View attachment 109876 I have spoke with a rep from QA1 and calvert. both told me a need to measure the shocks with car on the ground. my issue is the airshocks. I don't feel I'd get an accurate measurement giving that the added air manipulates the actual length of the shock. Maybe I'm overthinking it I don't know. Does anyone have any suggestions, or have a similar set up that can provide a part number or length ? the out the airshocks and measure the cars ride height on just the leafs?
If you are planning on going to conventional (non-air) shocks, they provide just damping action and no support, so it makes sense to deflate the air shocks to mimic the height of the suspension with the conventional shocks. MD
If the leaf springs are worn out, you will not get an accurate measurement of ride height with the air shock deflated. In that case, you need to put the rear of the car where you want it to be ultimately, with good springs and the final tire height you plan to run. (Shocks are not meant to support vehicle weight or adjust ride height) You can and should get the caltracs...Install em and then you will know what travel length needs to be for your shocks. Otherwise you are just chasing your tail. Note: You may actually need new leaf springs at this point depending on how long the traction bars have been on the car. Traction bars kill leaf springs. Especially if you drag race regularly. Good luck!!!
Measure the shocks with the car at the height it will be when the air shocks are replaced with the regular shocks.
