When i have the rear end out of this, what should i do for rear suspension improvement. I will want a drag type setup in the rear, for good standing start, off the line hook up. Keep in mind, this is my sleeper project that will be run as a street car, but hopefully, deceptively quick. Any input on shocks, springs/rates, .... Thanks tim
for drag racing any standard shock will probably do since you are also going to be on the street. i'd just put on a set of slapper bars at thhis point. i have the caltrac bars on mine. not sure if they're worth it unless you are making pretty good hp. i'd also get them in black so they don't stand out as much for the sleeper look.
What Don said. Also try and get some sticky tires of some sort and subframe connectors. Make sure the spring bushings and hangers are in good shape, could even get some tapered shims to change the pinion angle if the traction/wheel hop, becomes a real problem. Have you got a little more stall in the convertor? Seems to me that Toyo made a real sticky street tire that was banned at our track in real street class?????
Im not sure on the stall. I know some pure stock guys use a low stall (1200-1500) to take some of the torque out of the launch. If not that then around 2800. Thanks More is welcome
When I put in my 9" rear I swapped in some urethane bushings in the leaf springs and added some Southside Machine Lift bars. They bolt to the axle at the u-bolts and clamp onto the front of the spring, kind of like Cal-tracs but alot cheaper. Not sure if they are still made though, I think Lakewood makes something like it but they might all be for 9" rears with the bigger u-bolts and biggers axle. I axle installed sub frames as mentioned above. Seems to work pretty good, no traction problems. I liked the Nitto drag radials. They hooked up as good as my hoosier quicktime ETs did but on a 16" wheel.
