ok guys, I know some of you have been in the game forever. So I have looked at an 8" rearend pumpkin and the code is: WCZ-C1 3L00 78B 932. I know the first part "WCZ-C1" means 8" and 3.00 gears, but what does the rest say/mean? Does it give enough info to tell if it will fit a mav rearend? The casting is: C70W if that helps. Thanks.
axle code According to my chart the 3L00 is a "Traction Lok"!! The rest of the numbers are date of mfg(month, day and week). the last numbers are plant code. You have a very fine posi unit there and yes it should fit the Mav.
Yehaa! Yep, thats what I thought. So now I've got to see how much the guy wants for it and maybe I can get it for less that $300. Any opinions?
ok, i'll fess up. OK, call me greedy, but I didn't want to say I found it on eBay, but here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1871761386&rd=1 So...hopefully I can get it cheaper than his "buy it now" price.
does it work? How can I know if the unit is working? My buddy told me the way to check is to put it under a load. Any other way? The description says it spins freely and nothing is chipped, but does that really mean anything?
Rear gears Well guy, you are in a pickle here. The unit is in NY and you in Ga., what he is telling you is that the gear teeth all are good and the ring and pinion rotate freely indicating the bearings are also good. This is not necessarily the case, some bearing and race pitting and or gear tooth pitting will still let it rotate freely. You are just going to have to trust the guys word. The posi unit may be good or bad, without being in the car and jacking up one wheel to see if it is engaged, it's another crap shoot. Even then the clutches could still be in bad shape so a test burnout would be in order. I don't want to be bearer of bad news but not being able to visually look before buying is a gamble. I checked his feedback and seems to be an ok trader, email him and ask questions about it. Did not look at his shipping description but those chunks are HEAVY! Otherwise looks like it may be a fair deal. Have you checked to see the availability of repair kits for the Trac-Loc assy? Kind of like going to the blackjack table and getting a 16. Should I stay or take another card? Good luck anyway.
The traction lok discs are the same as used in the bigger 9" so they are easy to get. The spec for testing the lockup is 40 foot pounds but you have to have some way to hold the assembly. If you intend to change gears, that is another matter.
