Have the original C4 transmission in the car. Pulling it this weekend.

Local shop with a good reputation wants $600 for a rebuild, a new Hugh's performance trans is $1,200.

I am no expert by any means, learning as I go. Don't want to go cheap and then have to pull it again due to something else...but if it's all the same, I'll save $600.

    Opinions?

It all depends on what you are trying to do. If you are doing a stock/mild 302 then a rebuild is fine. If you are going crazy HP then you are going to need a performance transmission. As long as they know what they are doing the rebuild should be fine.

Ask each place for a detailed list of what they’re doing to the transmission for that price.

Not sure of your abilities.. but if you can drop a trans and install it. I'll bet money your can rebuild it.

Hardest part is installing in my opinion.

you will also need a new converter. around here that's the only way my Guy will stand behind his rebuild.
$600 is the price around here also...converter extra.
