Does anyone know of the cost of getting things rechromed? Is it possible? How do people who show their cars fix the scratched chrome?

I had my bumpers rechromed, cost about $260 apiece. For small parts I bought a home plating kit from Caswell. Haven't tried it yet, maybe this weekend. Wanted to replate the rear side window J strips, inside handles, etc.

The rear side window J pieces (Boomer-rang chrome) is made of pot metal and only a few places specialize in doing pot metal. Cost about $120 to get a pair done.

To plate pot metal (Zinc die cast) you have to remove all of the old plating, and apply a base of copper before you chrome, just like when you replate steel.

I had a set of bumpers done by TriCity Plating. They did a great job. Costs was $325 for the pair. I had Pauls Chrome do the boomerangs. They were $170 for the pair. They need to be redone.

I am not too sure what is meant by the j pieces. Can most of the small chrome be done with the kits they sell?

j pieces - the curved pieces around the back edge of the rear pop out windows. Made from pot metal and almost always look bad. As far as how well the home plating kits work, we'll find out in the next week or so. If you want to check them out....

Hey, bmcdaniel...let me know how that Caswell set works for you. I've been looking into them and an electroplating setup from a company in Florida.
