At one point I am going to get all of my chrome parts redone. Who has done it and how much did it cost? I am going to need both bumpers, door handles, boomerangs, and side mirror. Thats about all the chrome parts isn't it? Who does it on the east coast or near NC, SC or VA?

I think for now I am going to paint the bumpers the same silver color as the grill. My bumpers are pretty rusty, but they are straight. I don't want to go cheesy and use "chrome" spray paint. That stuff is awful. I used this stainless steel spray paint once that supposedly had real metal in the paint. That stuff looked good.

    Thanks

Tri City Plating has always been recommended by board members (including me) for their bumpers. Avoid Bumper Boyz in my opinion.

For the mirror - look on ebay for a NOS one or really good used one. They are out there and will be cheaper than trying to get your mirror apart and chromed.

Boomerangs can cost about $250 for the pair to rechrome, as most chromers will not work on pot metal. Look in Hemmings for a custom plater that works on pot metal. You must start with pit free ones, so factory painted ones make a great donors. Pitted old chrome ones are not good candidates for rechroming.

Door handles are reproduced - look for ones for a 1967-68 Mustang / Cougar. Since it is a Mustang part, they are very cheap to buy.

Everything else on the car is stainless steel and can be polished up with a buffing wheel and paste.

Cool, thanks for the info. My boomerangs are not pitted. They are just starting to show some of the brass. Actually one of them is not bad. $250 is a lot of cash for two little parts, huh? I didn't know that about pot metal and chroming. I'll check out the website you posted right now. Thanks again.

Yeah, me either. Actually I paid nothing for mine, but I honestly want to get it back together right and end up with a nice car. I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and spend the money. It may be a while for this though. Probably one of the last things I do. Bumpers on the other hand will be high on the list after paint. It just won't be right without nice shiny chrome bumpers. Maybe I can get lucky and find some real nice used boomerangs. It'll probably be cheaper to chrome mine, huh?

Not necessarily true. I used a really nasty set to get rechromed on my 1970 Grabber and they came out extemely nice!! I have always paid around $120 to $150 to have a pair done.

    $250 is a lot I agree - :(

I just pulled my receipt to get the addy of the place I used. Small shop that does custom high quality work. Price in Oct 2006 was $215.20 with tax and shipping one way. Since that was 2 years ago and I know metal prices have sky rocketed - specially copper which gets plated first to the pot metal - I would expect $250 from these guys now for the same work. I have to add, he did give me 3 prices, sort of a good, better, best, choice for the quality of plating and I choose the best option.

They had my parts about 6 months so don't be in a rush. But their work is second to none. They also will not work on zinc pot metal with bad pitting. Must be a good donor part or they will not do it.
