I personally didn't feel that the article was very complimentary, and I don't believe the author is totally up to speed on the value of these vehicles. He is correct that they are not going to bring the values that Mustangs and other performance Fords bring, but I still think that he is a bit misinformed about the following that they have.

This is from Cars & Parts Magazine-June 2006.

Why in the world do an article on a plain-jane six-banger big bumper Maverick? Jeesh ... at least it wasn't a 4-door!

    When I first opened it....

...I thought it was Ray Parrish' car! I had to hunt to find the owner's name.
This owner lives in California. My Dad subscribes to that magazine-has since the 70's.
They concentrate on all original stuff only. They do look at performance cars-nothing modified.

Stupid people irritate me. I think it's a conspiracy; car publications always try to show the maverick in the worst possible light. It also p!$$&$ me off whtn they compare it to Pintos and Vegas. No, I'm not getting on a Pinto/Vega rant here, but there is simply no comparison. The Maverick is bigger and is a completely different chassis (unlike the Mustang-II which shares the Pinto platform). The biggest reason that so many people have no respect for the Maverick is because they've never seen a nice one. So many have seen a junky, dilapidated, abused, saggy-rear, rusty, 6-cylinder beast with skinny tires, (having 4-doors won't help the image either) that they assume all Mavericks to be ugly, no-performance, valueless vehicles. Another reason is the mentality that if it's not a Mustang or Camaro, it isn't "cool".
It's one thing to be ignorant about a car, but quite another to be ignorant and think you know all about it and what its value is, writing about it as if you're an authority on the subject...

I guess I'm the only one that dosen't see much wrong the the article. It's a great looking car IMO, especially to be all original. The article itself could have been better, but at least it wasn't another "worlds worst cars" kind of thing. :90:

They do need to do a little research first before writing something like that, specifically about the following these cars have. This site is proof that they have a healthy following. Nothing like Mustangs of course, but I wouldn't say they are totally forgotten either. The fact that this is the fist site that comes up when you type "Ford Maverick" in google tells me they did basically no research...

Guys Comets and Mavericks are one of the coolest cars in my opinion now. It wasnt until one month ago I was looking for a 1965 to 1971 car to restore. During my Ebay search I came across something called a Comet GT, this car was so awesome! it has cool body lines, came with a V8 and was lightweight, just what I wanted, I instantly fell in love with it. I had to do a search on it to find out what the heck a Comet was. It was then I found out it was a Maverick and my jaw fell. Dont kill me for saying this, but I thought mavericks were a POS, not sure why I thought that, I guess just from what others have said in the past. If someone said do you like Mavericks to me before I would of said Euuuuuwww yuk. But now, after seeing this site and ebay listings, these things are awesome. I guess mavericks just got its stigma from all the 4 door family cars. Im now a proud owner and have to say I get more looks in my 71 Comet GT then I do my Ferrari

In my opinion, the Mavs and Comets are a better value holder than The Mustangs of the same era, although people believe otherwise. Can't you find more Mustangs than almost anything? Why would I want one of those dime a dozen models when I can have (at this time) a Mav or Comet and be different? Maybe if back then they would have promoted and advertised, the way they did the Camaros and Mustangs, Ford would have had to made more and we would be in the dime a dozen class.:drink::bs: :drink: :drink:

I saw the magazine today. I thought it was pretty good. I like the whole magazine. Lots of good stuff in there. I might have to subscribe to it, although it is expensive.

I have sold some of Dad's on E-bay from the late 70's and 80's with
Boss 302's, Superbirds etc. I got $35 for one of them. So.....maybe
    they are an investment!

    :yup:
