Any tips for resinstalling my transmission?
When I took it out, the round-shape, doughnut-like part stayed in the engine. Was that part supposed to come out w/the transmission, or is it o.k. that it stayed attached to the motor? Do I just reconnect it and tighten the bolts, or do I need to do anything special like turn the motor or something else?

    :hmmm:

installation of the tranny will be easier if you take that doughnot shaped thing off (Torque Convertor is what it is called) should be a few bolts on the other side of the flywheel. slide it onto the input shaft on the tranny and make sure its all the way on. install tranny then put the bolts back on the convertor

the round shaped doughnut looking thing is the toruque converter. you have to remove it from the motor and put it back in the trans. there are 4 nuts holding it to the flex plate. you need to rotate the motor to access each nut. once you get it removed you need to put i back in the trans. it has 3 different things that i has to align with in the trans to go all the way in. that will result in 3 seperat clunks as you put in. rotate it as you put it in. do not hammer or force it in. take a look at the snout on it that goes in. there are two flats that need to be alinged with pieces right behind the seal on the trans. when you put the trans back up to mate to the motor there is the 4 studs on the converter and there is a drain plug on the conveter. all of these have to line up with the corisponding holes. these tips should cover the major mistakes that are common when people try to put a trans in.

Be sure to lube the sealing lips with Vaseline or light grease before you install it or the seal can burn up and start leaking right away.
