It can be removed with out taking out the glass. You need to pull out the speedo cluster, and if you look up inside you'll see the small nuts holding it in, there are a few on either end that can be a pain, it's been along time since I've changed one, maybe do a search and see what you can find.
There are 11 or 13 screws holding it from the underside, from corner to corner. Lots of laying on your back and peering into the dark to find them all.
there is a little bolt on each end ,the rest are nuts. i had to remove the head light switch to get to the one on that end. you can't see them... i also removed the radio and ash tray. if you have factory a/c you might have to remove the vent in the dash. ... ...
There are 16 (or so) studs underneath with nuts on them. The only thing you have to remove is the lower dash (the plastic part), the instrument cluster, and the headlight/wiper switches. That will allow you to get your Hillshire Farms sausage fingers in there to remove the nuts... (oh yeah, and the bolts on each end like Frank said)
Or....E-baying! As Frank said, a cap is made, pad is not reproduced. I have seen some recovered that don't look so good. There are companies that recover them using vacuum forming techniques. But, that is pricey!
I'll give you $20 for it if you pay shipping! j/k-I have seen them go around $125 without cracks. Possibly more to the right buyer. Seth
i had a ...perfect...one once. i dropped it and it cracked in 2 places... another one i had...i was going down the road and had a rattle in the dash so i slapped the pad and it split all the way from front to back even if you have a good pad i would suggest putting a cap on it... ... ...
Thanks. I was planning on going to a yard tomorrow but since it's the 4th, it will have to wait til next Wednesday.
