my 72 mav has 3 coats of the same color paint.im prepping for primer and came across a noticable amount of what seems to be factory bondo on the gutter trim above the doors/sides of roof. the problem in the actual gutter area is that the other coats of paint chunked up and bubbled a bit when the car was painted it has become a chunky dried cracked mess.not sure how they are attached so i want to be careful.do i

A.sand it by hand hoping my arm wont brake off
B wire brush most of it out and wet sand.
C use chemical abrasives and hand sand

i am worried i may deform the normal contour of the rails/gutters and i want a Original finish to it when im done priming anyone else have an apropriate solution?

Most of that is factory seam sealer, it's hard to remove, and something most people just live with. Just sand it by hand, the best you can.

If its cracking ...and bubbling up...You probably have a rust issue under it. A propane torch and a scraper or old screwdriver will help you remove it but, its still a pita job. The steel in this area is pretty stout (except the roof skin itself)If its just dried out and cracking...Clean it up best you can, apply some new seam sealer over it to fill in cracks and move on...Good luck!!!

I would think an abrasive cleaning wheel would work pretty well on that.

I used a wire wheel on a drill/low speed on die grinder. HAs to be a pretty stiff wheel though. that old sealer is tough. Applied new sealer before paint.
