    i have a C4 transmission in my 73 comet...

i disconnected the flexplate from the torque converter and seperated the motor from the tranny and removed it from the engine bay. NOW, what is the easiest and cleanest way to remove the transmission?

im getting ready to do my Roller Motor swap, but i need to take my tranny to a guy to check and make sure gears and seals or good.

and when putting everything back in, should i do it as one piece?

its a floor shift by the way.

I try tp take it out and put it in in one piece usually. Last time I took it out after the engine was out. I have a tranny jack from Harbor Freight. I put it under the tranny pan and remove the crossmember bolts. 2 in the center holding the tranny then the 2 holding the Xmember to the frame. Take all the linkage off, I usually lower it a little before removing the cooler lines. After lowering it the rest of the way i try to jack the car up as high as I can. I usually put a 4X4 or 4X6 on the jack. Without getting under it I pull the Tranny jack and tranny out the side. Hope I didn't leave anything out. Also I keep kitty litter nearby as I usually need it.:)

You have to disconnect the cooler lines, shifter linkage at the transmission and the kick-down linkage at the transmission. You should drain the transmission and then remove the driveline. Un-do the crossmember bolts and remove the rear mount bolts. Put a jack under the transmission pan and disconnect the exhaust from the manifolds or headers. You will need the bell housing (engine to transmission) bolts in if you are going to remove them together. You should probably use a lifting bar that lets you adjust the balance point and have the car up on stands so everything will clear.
NOTE: no matter how well you drain the transmission when it is tilted back you will get fluid everywhere - so have some floor dry (kitty litter or rice hull ash) to clean it up.

yeah, just got the tranny removed. the hardest part for me was separating the tranny from the drive shaft. but, as soon as i removed the lines that go to the radiator, then it was easier to clear.

You guys werent lying about the trans fluid all over the place. good thing i had a old rug under the car so grease and other **** doesnt get all over the place.
