While working on my 73 Maverick, I managed to crack the plastic grille. Does anyone know the right kind of glue to use to make a repair? I prefer to find a glue that is a solvent for the plastic - that is, it will soften the plastic when applied to it. Also, does anyone happen to know what kind of plastic the grille is made of (i.e. styrene, pvc, polypropylene, etc.)? Thanks for reply.
I personally would plastic weld it. You can use a small soldering iron, but don't let it get to hot. I have a plastic welder that is basically a small soldering iron connected to an adjustable reostat. The other alternative I would not be without is Duramix 4147 epoxy. You can get it at an autobody supplier. It is clear and sets in about 1 minute and is quite strong.
You could try Tenax-7R its a plastic welding glue. You should be able to find it in a local hobby(model) store or arts and crafts place. The grill seems like its styrene plastic, but I doubt it,I dont think it would be durable enough. It does behave like styrene though.Auto body supply houses carry single and two part polyester glues/resins for repairing abs plastic car bumpers and the like, they may have what you need.Hang out a while, someone will probably post with exact answers to your questions.Good luck.
here's what i us...it is some great stuff... did a grille, lower dash tray, fan shroud, etc. etc. ...Frank..
well what I do, is i get crazy glue and baking soda, but it has to be the regular crazy glue, not the gel or whatever kind they make now. Fill the crevice with a lil bit of glue then put a bit of baking soda and keep doing this in layers. Mind you though, once this stuff dries its hard, real hard, but its great for repairing bumper covers grilles and the sort.
