Since I'm thinking about getting one of those nice shift kits for my automatic transmission instead of changing over to a 5-speed I'd like some info on the replacement shifters I see at auto parts stores. My car originally had a column shifter, but for some reason the person who had it before me converted it into a floor shifter (a really ugly floor shifter, and left the column shifter in place). I've seen those nice chrome ones at auto parts stores and was just wondering......how hard are those things to swap out? I mean since I already have a floor shifter would it be easy to just swap them out? What do you guys think?
floor shift for auto I have a B&M Z Gate in my maverick, it looks good, works great, was not that expensive and had everything in the box to do the job. B&M gets my vote.
we have a b/m unimatic. real easy to put in...looks great too. also picked up a b/m aluminum t-handle. didn't have to swing the shift lever on the tranny... just route the cable from the other direction.
shifter. I used to run a z-gate in my old 302 powered Courier pickup and I loved it. I run a megashifter in my Maverick and I love it too. The full (both directions) ratchet action of the megashifter is great and after I had it for a while I think I would prefer it to the z-gate, but that old thing felt awesome to slam through the gears and made a cool kachink! sound each time. my .02
You guys know if a Mr. Gasket 7668 shifter will fit a C4 transmission? Also are any of the shifters you guys are talking about under $150?
shifter if you shop around you can find the Z-gates for a little less then $100, I bought mine 2 yrs.ago for $119
Max; I use a '67 Mustang shifter. Fits great, looks clean. If you have bucket seats it is better. I can't get to first gear without a bit of tugging on the shifter, because the shifter handle is bent back. The Mav shifters were straight (a pinto shifter will work, and they are cheap and easy to find). Good luck, Earl
ive been readin in other posts that if im running headers i,ll need to instal a floor shifter.. if so can it be done with a bench seat? i just redid mine and i,d hate to have to go hunting for buckets and if i can keep the bench seat wich shifter do you guys recommend for the bench seat.. thanks ...if it wernt for you guys and this message board i,d never have gotten as far as i have already
The B&M Unimatic is cable shifted and you cat put it anywhere from the trunk to the roof if you want. It will work with a bench seat no problem. It was 100 bucks even and it looks amazing and dated. I vote for the Unimatic all the way. -Todd
thanks i,l look in to that i kinda like having the bench seat all my other cars are buckets figured this time i,d be diiferent
