Just looking for some insight on which brand of slick/front tire to use.
It has been a few years since I have raced and the tires that are on the Maverick are pretty "weather checked" (starting to crack) at the top of the casing. The wear holes are about 1/2 gone, but I just don't want to take any chances with these tires as they are 4+ years old and the car has been sitting on them (the air pressure was around 35/40 both front and rear) during the off seasons. Anyway; I just don't want to take any chances on tires I don't trust to go over 125mph.
The question I have is that when I was racing SS cars back.....some time ago, I ran whatever I could afford, M/T and Goodyear. I really liked the Goodyear as they seemed to have a better selection of sizes and compounds. Any ideas as to who makes the best slick now, and also who has the best prices. Also, back in the day Morroso Front Runners were about the only front racing tire available, and now everyone has them.
The tire sizes I am looking at are 31/13X15 for the rear (med compound) and 27.5/4.5X15 for the front.
Also, looks like I will be replacing the fuel cell (it's a 5 gallon plastic cell) as the foam has gone south and I would rather have one with a roll/over cutoff valve.............any ideas?
Also, I have never been a fan of braided line, and this car has tons of it and appears some of the AN fittings have a slow leak. Any ideas??????
    I am open to suggestions.

    Thanks

. i would not run those tires. they will come apart and probably have one hell of a flat spot. very dangerous. hoosier has an excellent slick and front runner. there quick time dot is also quite amazing. i also like mickey thompson e.t streets. they have great handling on the highway and have a great tread life

    Maverickdragger,

Thanks for the info on Hoosier, I really don't have any information to go on with exception of running them on the Miata Spec racer for the SCCA.
I won't be using DOT tires on the car is this a strip only racer, and has been since the early 70's. It does currently have wrinkle walls on the rear and a spool...............which I consider race only.

    Thanks again

I have M/T ET drags on the rear and just a narrow VW sized tire on the front on mine. Juust a word of caution, when my foam went in my cell, it clogged the fuel lines all the way to the carb. I had to blow it out with compressed air. I run a 5 gallon cell without the foam. Won't ever have the foam again. Most people I know don't run it. :)

    Thanks Don,

I will take the complete fuel system apart, again; I really hate braided lines!
It looks like I'll go with an aluminum 5gal cell with no foam.
I am going to have the tires dismounted then I can re-polish the rims before new tires go back on. I am leaning towards the Goodyear's though.
I really need a front tire that is tall...............at least 27". I have VW tires on my Model A and they are just not tall enough.
Thanks for the advice on the cell!
