Good day all. I have a 75 comet I recently bought. It's a really nice ALL ORIGINAL barn find. No rust, nice interior, a real time capsule, even the original plastic grille is in perfect shape (usuallu see them smashed/ cracked). But the motor is locked up from sitting. Has the original 302 (and I'm assuming they came with a C4, correct?). So instead of dealing with trying to unstuck it, I am just gonna buy a new 302 crate motor from summit. And while in at it, just buy a transmission. I was looking at the TCI sizzler and TCI streetfigher C4's they offer and was a bit confused with something. I don't want to modify anything, just wanna bolt it all in and go. The sizzler says its good for 300hp (which is what the motor is rated at), and the streetfigher is rated at 450. So I wanted to go with the stronger streetfigher, but it says it has an automatic/manual valve body. The car must be automatic (the car is for my brother).

So my question is, will I be able to use the original linkage, or do I have to install some kind of special shifter? Again, I dot want to use the manual part of it, just the automatic part. Also are all C4's the same? Will the summit TCI street fighter even bolt up to the 302 and the factory motor mounts? I was told I'd have to reuse the original bell housing, true? I basically don't want to have to weld anything to make this all work. Thanks in advance :D

Have you verified that the motor is actually stuck? Maybe with a little work (a whole lot less work than changing motors) it will trun over and you can get it unning again.

Also, will this be a drag car or a daily/weekend driver or what?

From the picts I've seen, appears these trans use a universal shift lever which generally require a aftermarket shifter...

Before spending $$$, I'd check into having the orig rebuilt... Assuming no hard parts are defective, $500-$600 should do it for a carry in...[IMG]

I have had a street fighter in my mav for 7 years now works good... Although I used a Hurst pro-matic shifter in mine, you can transfer the factory linkage over.... You have to reuse your bell housing and you should buy a new converter... To bad I'm not ready to do my swap yet, the c4 will be for sale soon... I'm gathering the parts for a t-5 swap.. My tci will be just sitting in the corner not being used...

Yeah, the motor is pretty good and stuck. Instead of worrying about an old motor, I just wanna start fresh with a nice new motor and trans. Im a trucker and don't have much time to work on cars much, so I just wanna swap and go. The car is for my brother, and will not be driven hard at all. Just to work and back. Thanx for the quick replies :D

If the car is just being driven back and forth to work...no need for a high dollar performance transmission. Just rebuild the one in the car.

But...if the car is just being driven back and forth to work, I would suggest just getting a normal car (Mustang, Focus, etc) and not a Maverick for that purpose.
