    So here is my story...

I bought My dad a 71 Maverick 302, 6 years ago for his birthday. 3 Years ago it was flooded during hurricane sandy at the jersey shore. I bought it back from the insurance company and now in the process of restoring it. Im shooting to give it back to him this Christmas.

I got a bunch of question and if anyone can give me feedback would be awesome.

*What long tube headers will fit? It used to have a set of badly welded cut up heddman headers.

*The steering always sucked. What steering setup should I do thats easy? Like a junk yard swap

*Would like to upgrade to disc. What junk yard swap could I do for a front and rear swap?

Welcome to the site from northeast Ohio!!! :tiphat:

So is this Maverick salted or unsalted?

Depending on what the answer is to the above question, you might want to stay with the stock steering system and just replace its components especially if you want this done by Christmas.

There are numerous options upgrading the stock front steering/suspension with a OEM or aftermarket disc brake system, later Maverick/Comet, Granada, Wilwood, etc. Make your decision which direction you wish to proceed prior to changing either set of components. Saves time and money!

I said that too and 7 years later I am hoping for Christmas. It will probably be more like May or June.

The front suspension and brakes are basically same as '68-'71 Fairlane/Torino/Falcon and disc brakes from any of these fit, same can be said for '68-'73 Mustang & Cougar... There are some differences between '69 & '70 but as long as you don't mix years, it all fits... I have '69 Torino brakes on mine...

Only part in steering that's different is the center(drag) link, is shorter due to Mav/Comet narrower track... The steering sector is same as any '68-'71 Fairlane, Falcon etc but Mustang boxes have different bolt pattern so won't readily fit a Mav/Comet... Power steering boxes have a quicker ratio than manual boxes but will increase effort, especially if vehicle isn't moving...
