Ripped a ball joint boot. Can I get replacement at local parts house?

Swapping in the drop spindles and noticed a tear in one of my boots. I have had the spindles on at least 4 separate times, and apparently snagged one with my joint puller.

Can I get a replacement Mustang II boot at Oreillys/Autozone/Napa or is it a special order part?

 

You should be able to get a boot all by its lonsome I have in the past but, they tend to be generic and dont fit as well as original.

 

I have had problems finding them in the past.

 

Do you remember where you ended up finding one?

 

Peel it off, clean it up, and take it with you, and see what you can find. Or maybe call Rod &Custom, they may be able to tell you what they use, and a part number?

At that time I worked at Pep Boys and they had a "Help" section. They had a "Help" book in the parts dept so I had one of the counter guys order me one. Took awhile..

 

I have it off and in a ziplock. I may give rod and custom a call and see what they use, and what will fit.

Oh, sorry. Seems to be working fine. Still up on jack stands until I get the exhaust TIG welded. Hopefully tomorrow.

I bought two upper and two lowers, and tried them only on the one side with the ripped boot, just in case they somehow don't work. Kept the other side with the R&C boots. Yes, another experiment...

Upper-65-73 Mustang--C70Z-3105-B

Lower-65-73 Mustang--C70Z-3105-A

Look exactly the same, except lower one seems just a touch bigger at the base.

New ones have the metal ring at the top. Rubber is a bit thicker on the newer ones, so they are a touch firmer, heavier. $6.95 each.
