whats the best way to break rounded nuts and bolts loose? its the lower starter bolt thats kicking my butt. its a 1/2in bolt but every wrench and socket i have slips and my channel lock isnt able to catch on either.

    any ideas?

goto sears and get the rounded nut and bolt sockets.I saw them and thought there is no way the will work but it worked like a charm. They come in a set for different sizes.:thumbs2:

Man, that SUCKS. Bad place to be working. I would suggest using LOTS of heat first, and then hitting it with the vise grips. A "lot of heat" means acetylene torch, not cigarette lighter (but stay clear of tranny lines, etc.). Then throw that nut/bolt/stud as far away into the woods as you can and replace it with a new set. It will just get worse the next time if you don't.

ohh dont worry, that things outta here. i wouldnt put myself through that fight again for a bolt that i can get for a few bucks brand new.

i'll try some heat but investing in that kit probably isnt a bad ida ither as much as im working on old cars.

That is such a tight place to work in...good luck with whatever you get to work in there.

Luckily it is the lower one, not the upper one. That would be damned near impossible to remove it you rounded it out:mad:

you know im working on a I6 right?

i got all the room in the world around both bolts. the upper one i got under the hood and the lower one is right there when you lay under the car

    OOPS!!!

Thought you were working on a V8. Miserable place to be on a V8. Either bolt is difficult to get to...

I don't know how easy you I-6 guys have it...

I feel like I had some of your :wine:cause one time he can't get vise grips on it and the next he has a world of space around it...:16suspect
    :p
J/K New...I know it can be a pain when things are rounded.

they might have something similar but it's not like the sears one and I can tell you that the sears stuff really works. Not really cheap, like 11-15 dollars. They have different size sets so make sure you know what size bolt you have.
