I was just wondering.. My mav isn't a drag car but I would like to make a pass just to do it.. My question is, do I have to have a roll cage and harness to run it at the roundup on July 28th??? If so what are the minimum specs on the cage and harness? ie, what kind of tubing do I need?
at nhra tracks you need a roll cage when your quicker than 11.49. if your faster than 13.99 you need a helmet. you most probably only need to make sure you have seat belts and your battery is secure. and you have all your lug nuts. good luck but it's addictive.
most of the time when you rent the track like they have for the round-up all the rules sort of go out the window sort of becomes outlaw track they would stop you if it was for your or others safty ...like loose body parts and leaking fluids all over the track ...they prob wont even say anything if you run 5s in the 1/8th with no helmet.
Guys, The track is not going to tech the cars, but, if you regularly run your car, and you know that your car runs fast enough to warrant helmet, fire jacket, etc...I would bring them. They are not going to say something to you for a minor infraction, (say, your seat belts out of date), but it's not going to be the wild west either. There is still liability on their part, which means there must be some responsibility on our part. If you have to use a particular piece of safety equipment regularly at your own track, then you should assume that you will also need that equipment at this track. If you do not race your car regularly, then we can address issues that may present themselves at that time. I really don't think that we will have any problems. I foresee a good time by all, but let's use our heads. Let's be safe for our sake, not theirs. PS...I've never met anyone who was smart enough to get their car to run 5's, who was stupid enough to not wear a helmet while doing it! Later,
ok !! ok!! the 6s was not saying somone would just the peaple running the track wont stop you if you did ...thats all i was saying
If you run quicker than 8.50 in the 1/8th, you will need a helmet. This is probably not any different than you are used to. This is standard for NHRA, and I'm told, IHRA also. If you're not sure what your car will run, and you get to the track and need a helmet, I will have one or two available. I don't really see this becoming a problem! Let's look forward to having a GREAT time at the track! Later,
Thanks Tom, Like mentioned, we will not be teched, but at the same time there is still always the risk of something happening. Lets not get careless. If you need a helmet, WEAR a helmet. Every car should have a seat belt. Remember, we will be bracket racing, so just cause your car may only run 60-70 mph in the 1/8th. At some point during the night you could be paired up against a car the runs 100+. Priority one: BE SAFE! Priority two: Have fun
Just a thought! It will be warm which leads most people to wear shorts. Bring a pair of long pants in case the track requires them. Our local track requires them for all racers.
Although I'm not going, , I'd like to add another reason for wearing a helmet: Your car might be a 10 second car (1/8th) but the guy that had to wait for his light (in bracket racing) might be running a low 6. He's doing over well over 100 mph at the trap while you're doing 65. Point is, even though your car may not be fast, you can't control what the OTHER guy does (loses it and T-Bones you at the finish line @ 100mph plus). Someone, somewhere, will loan you a helmet. Have fun guys, and don't forget to fill out that "Living Will" thing.
I agree....I promise no one will make fun of you for wearing a helmet in a 10 second car......I gurrantee that.
My slow car.... My car has a 289 in it with an FMX auto ( no shift kit ) and no posi.. I have never been on a track to race but this car " ain't no big block" If you don't count the rims and tires I have about $1000.00 in it. I figure I might hit 50 mph in an 1/8. I am bringing my 18 yr. old daughter and will let her make a pass too.. so I might need a ride home..
you will be OK with a seat belt. That is all that will be required of you and your car. Anything else that you might do for safety is totally up to you. *Also, when your daughter makes her pass, you can let everyone know and she can make a solo pass....that way she does not have the distraction of another car beside her. See you then, JF
I keep my helmet in the car at all times...........never know when you might pass a drag strip. I have had many people ask" oh you have a motorcyle too" when they see it in the back seat.
