I was on leave and made it to Bradenton for the NMCA event (well I watched all the qualifying on Sat.!). I happened to get a great picture of the Maverick pulling the front wheels off the ground. The bad part is I took the pic. on accident, so it is not zoomed in or anything!
If the pic is too big for the forum, I apologize, I do not know how to make them smaller. There are a few more pics of the car from the pits, along with 2 pics of a local bracket racer and his all flat black Maverick.
347mike, Great shot........I would hate to be inside the car when it came back to earth! Could you post the pictures of the car in the pits? Thanks
This particular Mav (70 I think) runs a basically stock truck 351w. He is running 6.69 in the 1/8th mile. Full tube car this a lot of fiberglass and sheet metal. I believe he is around 1900 lbs!
Ok this should be the last of the Mav's lol... If I recall the driver is 70 years old. In the first pic posted I believe he still ran a mid 8 (8.57 I believe) in the 1/4. Sorry IF the pics are to big, I do not know how to crop them down in size...lol. ANd I guess they were to big to put in one reply, so I did it in the 3 or 4 post!!! Hope they are enjoyed... There are some others too, but they vary from Ford, Chevy and Mopar. Along with a (used) $40,000 755ci motor!
Driver is Don Bowles. He has a long history with Jack Roush going waaayyyy back to the early '80's in NHRA Modified Production. I got a chance to race against him when he was campaigning his original Fairmont Futura in B/MP. The Maverick was built rather quickly two years ago to run in NMRA Hot Street and NMCA Pro Stock. They won the '09 Hot Street Championship. Roush Power Baby!
The tower was calling the black Mav. The "Stealth Maverick" I didn't get to meet Don, but his crew seemed down to earth moving so I could get the two pictures in the pits.
There is another thread on this car on the second page here....be sure to check out the vid and interview.
