This is from Eastwoods site. has anyone used the rust encapsulant and compared it to por-15 themselves? http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=852&itemType=CATEGORY&path=1,3,688,821&KickerID=173&KICKER
I'm going to give you a third choice. Frank and I have had real good results with Rust Bullet. I used it to repair a trunk floor, drip rails, and filled trim holes on a fender. I have nothing but satisfaction with the product. Frank did a repair on the back of his quarter panel (I think).
I've only used the Por 15. I've been using it for at least 15 years and really like it. I do wonder sometimes though if a lot of it is not the same and just sold under different packaging. For example, the Por 15 and Bill Hirsch Miracle Paint seem to be offered in the same colors and appear to be the same product. I may be wrong though...just guessing. I am interested in trying out the Rust Encapsulator though. Seems to be it's own product and I like the article about it. I will give it a shot.
I've used the Rust Encapsulator on two cars and it works very well.I even Used it on a car that sat outside for 6 months to test it for rust.It worked excellent.I agree that they are most likely all the same.
I'm with Terry, I like the Rust Bullet and am using it on my car. I have heard the POR-15 will crack after a few years. Never seen any proof of that, just heard it from a friend of a friend of a friend, you know how that goes.
i've had a floorpan and a batt. box replaced..he used por-15 on both. within 6 months the por-15 peeled off both places. someone said it did it because it was ...new metal... so far...Rust Bullit... has stayed on everything...new and old...that i have put it on.. i was looking for my pic. of a ...test subject... i had...maybe locate it tomorrow... ...Frank...
There is another product called Chassis Saver that I believe is similar.... http://www.magnetpaints.com/underbody.asp
I used all Eastwood products on my Grabber .. including Rust Encapsolator. I used it to coat the entire trunk compartment and also the firewall area under the Master Cylinder which had surface rust. I also used to to undercoat my Fenders and 1/4 panel wheel housings. I slopped it on thick on my entire floor as well before installing the sound deadener and carpet. Worked great for me ... it's pretty much the same as POR-15. If you get it on your skin it takes a long time to come off ... and I still have splotches of it on my driveway and garage floor. It comes in spray cans which is handy .. although I brushed almost all of mine on. I do keep a spray can of it handy for quick rust cover ups on just about anything.
Dan, This will cover up those spots on your floor nicely, lol.... http://www.garagefloorcoating.com/ http://www.musclegloss.com/ http://www.floorchips.com/ I'd love to coat my garage floor someday....
I have used both Rust Bullet and Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator. I recommend both. The Eastwood product comes in colors and spray bombs. Do not skimp and try to do one coat. Absolutely needs 2 coats to seal the metal. The brushed on products are thicker and are a real challange to sand. If the area you are working on needs to be smooth after application - spray it.
Rust Bullet is the same way. I got some on my arm, in my hair, and on my shirt when doing the bottom side of the trunk on Terry's '77. It took several days for it to come off my arm. Never did get it out of that shirt.
Yep. Don't use any of these products whilst wearing your Sunday-got-to-meetin' clothes. I've a shirt covered in the stuff and it now has holes, but not where the Rust Bullet stained.
Yes, but you better like silver. All of your clothes will be silver. I guess you could then try out for a part in your local theater's production of the Wizard of Oz. If you put Rust Bullet on your face, hands, and hair, you could play the part for a long, long time.
