I'd like to repair the drivers side floor and torque box and I'm wandering if anyone else has, what you used, and if any mustang sheet metal will work or be close?
I had to repair my right side torque box, it had a good size rust hole. I cut the old out and I just used some 1/8" flat stock I had laying around. Cut repair panels and welded them in. By the way, if you ever have a chance to get an old oil container (the big ones they use for house heating, etc,) grap them. The metal is usually solid, the oil pretty much saturates the metal from the inside out. Keeps the rust down. What can I say, Im a budget oriented guy...
We also used 18 gage steel and made our own patch panels. It turned out rather well. As far as I know no one makes repair panels for the torque boxes or floors for our cars and I'm not sure about Mustang panels. The following pictures are from the passenger side, but you can see how it was done. Before:
Newbie needs some learnin' What exaclty is a torque box? I have read about them on the forum before and almost always in connection to rusted out floors. I have a foot sized hole in the drivers floor and would like to know if the torque box is something I need to worry about.
what we did Well what we did, was after cutting the rust out and welding in some new sheet metal, we sprayed undercoating on it, then covered the entire floor with fiberglass. Was easy enough and figured it would help with any future problems that may arise. I am still trying to figure out how to send pics, this may work,I have some great before and after ones. Ok
after new metal, and some fiberglass You can tell where I didnt put the new fiberglass, but underneath, is new floor pans
