Hey guys, I'm looking to buy some safety equipment. Wondering where I can get some reasonably priced stuff. Need a helmet, jacket and pants. Still debating shoes.
I always start here. If nothing else it gives me a pretty good idea of prices. http://www.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=driving suit&dds=1 . I needed to replace my helmet so I went to the shop to try them on, then I went on ebay and typed in the name of the manufacturer and the helmet type. I got it for less than 1/2 the price of the shop I went to. Many helmets are sized differently, that's why I found the size and then the exact same helmet. Hope that helps.
Safety equipment? you mean kick off the flip flops and put on tennis shoes! My track tech told me last time out, "Dude, you gotta wear pants and shoes, not shorts and flip-flops". True story. That was with a 13 second maverick. 13 second 1/8 track times!!!
Remember you need a Snell rated helmet. Snell 2000 expires 1/1/2012 Snell 2005 expires 1/1/2017 Snell 2007 expires 1/1/2019 And it must have the Snell sticker inside. So get the latest one you can.
That sucks, man, but money talks, and you know how the rest of the quote works out. Sorry to say it, but it is true. We are doing the same thing with buying our new boat. We hit the shows, act interested, find what we want, and buy it elsewhere on the 'net. It sucks, but it works and gets you a good deal, if you do it right.
I'm not sure on the M rating. That is basically a MC helmet. I know they can be warn in some classes but I don't want to tell you wrong. I' d call the NHRA office 626-914-4761 or Ben Wilson, the NHRA tech director for this area 520-579-1426. He's available Tues. & Thurs. from 7-9 PM. I usually try to buy locally on my speed parts as I get better service, but I usually know what the approximate price is also. I'm not going to get a part locally for $150 that I can buy online for $75. If I know my mail order price I'm more than willing to pay a little more locally. Just don't try to gouge me. If that happens you won't be getting my business anyway.
just go to the local ups store and pick up a roll of bubble wrap. wrap your self up and you should be good and safe.
I can see it now. Bubble man wins class at Barona. Stay tuned while we burst his bubble and find out just who this mystery man is.
so when they are talking about 1layer 2layer 3layer they are just talking about how many times you wrap yourself with bubble wrap?
Hey I see it all the time in summer. Guys racing in shorts. One guy....'69 Chevelle with a 482...drives in shorts but with an SFI jacket...what's the point? Bad part is, the car is powered by an alky carb and runs 6-teens at around 112. In shorts???? :O Yes it's hot when the track temp is up around 140 deg but safety is safety. Would you rather sweat a little or???
