Whats everyone use? I have a cabinet blaster that I've neve used, and a pressure blaster also, I've been looking around, and they have regular sand, and something called "White Lightening" and some other "Oxide" stuff? I want to remove some of the rust in the wheel wells, and engine compartment.
I bought a big tent that I can push the car into (they were on sale, or atleast thats what my wife thinks)
I once had a bag feed gun and I remember sifting play sand (not from the kids sandbox, haha) through a wire screen to remove the bigger stuff. It had to be real dry to work though. You bought needed a full body cover to do it out of a box. Sand in the lungs is also not good, so be careful. Wish you would take some pics before and after, during, now.
how does sand blasting work...i know the part about the blasting but can you buy a kit to hook up to an air compressor or would you have to buy a whole machine to do it with?
For sand blasting, dont waste money on anything but a pressure blaster. Harbor Freight has decent ones for less than $100. You need a good compressor because they consume bunches of air. I turned my driveway into beach front property when I did my Sprint. But if you do it on concrete or blacktop, you can sweep it up, strain it, and reuse it.
a blasting cabinet for smaller pieces is the way to go. the sand stays in the cabinet gets reused over and over.
thanks for the info what would you call a good compressor i think mine is a 8HP honda engine one what kind of PSI do the pressure blasters use?
yeah a 1 cyl i sold my little electric one whats weird about a gas engine compressor? i have 2 of them and my uncle has 4.
We had a company come into our car club meeting one night and showed us Soda Blasting and how it differes from other media. They pointed out that the Baking Soda leaves only a white residue, is safe for the enviroment (can be rinsed away with water), and won't damage the metal like sand, because it dosent create the friction.
