sanding/rust removal

    I have a 1972 comet
    im working on the body of my 72 comet and some parts have 2-3 layers of paint and im wondering what to do about sanding down the layers and how many i would need to take off before i can prime and paint.

    Take it down to bare metal if it's rusty, you have to remove the rust. Painting over old paint can craze or crack, especially with different types of paint systems. If you have an air compressor and a DA sander it goes pretty quick. I'm not a fan of using chemical paint removers on car bodies, it can come back to haunt you later.
