My family was given tickets to Beachbend amusement park. Included along with those tickets were tickets to the raceway later that afternoon. So when the amusement park closed we went over to the raceway. As we are walking in I see this maverick. Always good to see a maverick or comet at the races especially when it has a Ford motor in it. It had a 5 something cubic in. motor with a mondo blower. When he did his burnouts it would drowned out the noise of the car he was running against. Twice he laid down the fastest quickest runs of the day(in the program) only to have some one right after him better it by fractions. I did see him run a 4.9xx at 144 mph in the 1/8, he said he should be running much better but that the track was slippery. He was in the 1/4 finals when we left. Long day at he park, tired kids and cool evening all made it too hard to stay for the finals, but the kids did say they liked it and we had a memorable day together.

What kind of ford motor is it? I don't recognize the valve covers shape.

He told me the name of those heads but I can't recall it now, I had to ask also. It is a BBF based motor, I didn't ask if it was a Stock block or after market. I know you can get well over 600 cubic inches from a stock block and his was in the 500 range.

Something else pretty cool is that this coming weekend Beachbend is holding the Harley Nitro Nats and there was a bike there testing. The best I saw it run was a 6.67 at 204 MPH in the 1/4, it was unbelievable watching it run. The sound was crazy! This is a pic of that bike.

I agree! Always nice to see a Maverick at the drag strip. I ran across a Father/Son team in Seattle. It was a light blue, dark blue combo. Had a big block Ford motor (460 cu in I believe). Was sitting back thru the firewall just like this one. It ran 8:92 in the 1/4 mile (can't run faster than 8:90). The Father told me it would go faster, but they had to dial it slower for the category they were in. If they ran to fast, they were disqualified. I watched the Son race it, he never let off the gas. It was all out on every race. They just prayed they didn't go to fast & breakout...

Yep, his name is Len, and I steered him to this site 2 or 3 years ago. Well...at least that's who owned the car then. He was out of Tate's Creek. He's running quicker now than he was then. He's a super nice guy. How'd my buddy Jeff Glover do in his Cam*** lol. He usually runs 4.70 in the 1/8th. I was having phone issues Saturday and couldn't get their messages. I was racing at home.

Here's a couple pics of it in my buddy's chassis shop for updates back in July...

I'm hoping he's going to be at the NMRA race the first weekend in October.

    Yeah,4.70 in the 1/8 is a high 7 sec 1/4 car at about 175mph.
