Just got back from the Henry County Pull-A-Part. Got a '70 front and rear valance, '71 Comet front and rear bumpers and brackets, a sport wheel (for Earl) thats missing the center cap (I have a spare cap around here somewhere), one '70-'72 arm rest in good condition, and a V8 throttle cable. Got the Valances for $11 a piece. The bumpers were $27 a piece with a 10 dollar core charge. Ended up spending just over $100. I also got a blue A/C HVAC control cover for free. The front valance was really nasty when I pulled it off the car, completely caked in dirt. It cleaned up REAL nice, it's in great condition. The rear valance is nice also, just needs 2 very small dents worked out. The '70 was a strange beast. Had a 250, A/C and a 4 lug 8 inch rear from the factory, on a '70! It had both a vent in the dash and round vents on the package tray. Someone had swapped in a 302. I may go back soon and get the 302 frame mounts, haven't decided yet. The car appeared to have last been on the road in '84 or '85. The Comet was a '71 with a factory 302 and A/C, last on the road in 2004.
Is that odd for a 1970 maverick to have factory air, cause mine came with air from the factory, in 1970, engine is a 200 though maybe thats even more strange and also vent in dash and round vents in package tray, I guess someone must have swapped this one to, because this one is a 8" 4 lug.
i don't understand what's strange about it either. but that's just me. i'm not an expert on anything. looks like you scored some good parts. dosent sound like a bad price for the bumpers.
I dunno, I had never seen a '70 with factory A/C until this one, or a 250 for that matter. I'm sure they are out there, but I have never seen one. I just realized on my reciept they rang the rear valance up wrong. They rang it up as "ground effects" and it cost $7.61 instead of $11.
Looks like LDO buckets in the trunk of the Comet. You sure that was a 71? 1970 Mavericks had optional 250 engines and A/C just alike all other years ...
That is some super deals you got there!!! Looks like that Comet back bumper is pretty nice too. As far as the factory air, I've junked two 69.5's with factory air.
man you guys have all the luck.... i have called damn near all the junkyards around here... and have located 1 (ONE) 76 maverick... i just need to find out how to get there now... and actually go there and see what i can get off of it and everyone whol told me that there werent very many mavericks out here wasnt kidding.. i have not seen a single maverick or comet driving or parked anywhere... what i am going to do though, is place a wanted add in the newspaper... see what i can find if people are willing to selll them
Dan, I believe the seat in the trunk was from an Explorer or Bronco. It said Eddie Bauer on it. The Comet's VIN was 1X92Fxxxxxx, Canada car. It had lighter green interior with a green bench seat. The body really isn't too bad on it. It's a shame someone junked it. It looks like the rear valance on that Comet was pretty nice until they set it down on those wheels.
you mean they didnt make eddie bauer mavericks?? man that and my missing c-4 clutch pedal, i got ripped....
Yea, worth more to the crusher machine. Not. It's kind of fun to watch them pick up a Lincoln Town Car and set it on top of another Town car, and then pick them both up at the same time and go cruising across the yard with them both stacked up and balanced on the gigantic fork lift.
