I spent way too long under a Mustang II today ... Long story very short ... I just got a 3.55 8 inch center section for $30. And it looks just like it rolled off the assembly line. This means that my Comet will regain "frequent driver" status again. I have had 4.62 gears in it for the past six years or so. 5 mpg and 45 mph cruising gets really old ... It was a lot of fun at our 1/8th mile dragstrip though ...
I was wandering through one of my favorite salvage yards on Wed afternoon and saw the Mustang II. Popped the hood and it was a V6, but an automatic, and usually the V6/stick cars are ones with the good axles. To compound things ... had a hard time checking the ratio because of a really nifty flex-pipe dual exhaust system that was rigged on this car. I took the code off of the door jamb and plugged it into the computer, and viola ... 3.55. Then I had to hope it was still there Saturday. I could only smile when I got to the yard and the sign said, "50% off sale this weekend". ... and I still have "Perma-Grin"...
Yeah, I can't wait to get it back there. The 4.62s were steep enough that the car was done with about 80 feet left to go. I used run it high in second across the finish line with the original 3.00s in it. It will probably run 1/2 way through high with the 3.55s. Can't wait to see ...
Great score for sure. I picked up one just like it at a swap meet last year for $60. I couldn't get the money out of my wallet fast enough!
great score! 4.62's huh? damn. i remember the vac line to the trans poped off one time and my car was stuck in 1st is that what driving 4.62's is like? lol
Good for you.. 4.62 kinda short for street and highway driving. And I too would like to hear the ET difference with the new gears. Dan
Cruising with 4.62s can be duplicated easily if you have 3.00s and an C4... never let it shift into high ... seriously ... 3.00x1.46 is approximately 4.5. Then imagine that there is a new gear lower than first that doesn't get used very much, but when you do ... it pitches the car away from a dead stop... if you can get it to hook. That only happens at the strip.
