Hey guys Im getting a 74 Mavi and I'm looking to get rid of the good ol' bench seat, my question to you guys is, what buckets will fit into the Mavi with little to no modifications? I'd like to get the stock Mavi buckets I like those but I cant seem to find them at all. If you know of a place to get them (for a decent price hopefully) or of any buckets in general that will fit (again with out to much trouble) let me know. Thanks! -Brandon
Several people on here have put honda, probe, late mustang, thunderbird, etc. buckets into their mavs. Most of the them are fairly easy to install. The only difference is that late model seats tend to be taller and wider front to back than the old buckets. The late model seats are waaaay more supportive though. You can also get seats through JEGS or summit if you'd like to go that route. I haven't checked, but autocrafters probably has some seats.
I'm not sure if 74 has the catalytic hump, my 75 did and i had to cut if out and make it flat, but you can find donor 74 and up bucket rails and just use those.
The only Crime was not replacing the rusted out floor pan Its gonna be funny when someone foot goes trough the floor
I used Honda Accord seats. late 80s, early 90s. A couple of others have used similar. They are small enough to fit between the tight mav humps. Even so, it needed some fabbed brackets to hold it straight and level, and was still a little tight in there. Plus side, they are VERY comfortable and support well. Recline, also. And, really light, for the racer in me. I will cover in leather once I decide what color the car will become. EDIT--and they almost match my fuzzy dice Another story altogether...the wife went and won at Bunco and traded gifts to get me some hard plastic dice to hang from my mirror. I was excited, then hung them, and sat in the seat, and noticed that if I got into a collision, those hard plastic dice would end up in my forehead or eye socket. She was heartbroken when I told her I couldn't mount them between my head and the windshield. Now, I call those fuzzy dice my "air bags". She got over it after a little explainin'...
Hey i mounted my Tach in the sameplace, back when i was fixing the tranny leak i shifted it into drive and the tach also shifted bad thing was i threw out a perfect chrome floor shifter a while back and all the ones i find at the junkyard are pitted or rusted
I had a set of those APC bucket seats in a CRX, and for the money you really cant beat em ($150 ea)The tracks you get with them are flat so fabbing up some mounts should be easy. I put them in a CRX and that is a whole other story...not easy at all, totally uneven floor. Only problem is if you are a person with some extra padding (trying to be nice) they would fit very snuggly. Im about 5'11" and 170lbs and they fit me perfect. Instead of recovering the buckets I have IM either getting another set of those or the Summit or Jegs brand. It's hard to find Maverick buckets and when you do they usually need recovering so for the money thats the way Im going.
Maybe Ill just get some of those aluminum racing seats outta summit or something. Shouldnt be too bad I am only 5'9'' 160lbs. So I shouldnt have any fitment issues! Thanks for all the help guys!
A little off topic, but... When you mount your tach on the column, you have to slide it forward (or was it backward?) so it is not on the shift sleeve. Then, you cannot tighten it too much or it will bind the shift sleeve. My shifter is on the floor, so I tightened it down enough to bind the shift sleeve so it doesn't move enough to effect the workings of my locking key and column. I drove once without the tach on and accidentally moved the shifting column around and couldn't turn my key.
I think I found some cheap buckets that I may buy, since those mustang 2 seats didn't slide very far forward, but what do you guys think, it is a little ricey, and may not be the greatest material. Has anybody bought these or knows somebody who has them. There are also other seats on ebay that are a steal, but I don't know the quality.
