So yeah mine got some... and its getting worse. The thing is that there are about 5 small holes all the way through (the roof), but my head liner is in perfect shape and i really dont want to take it out. Now i know the only way to solve the hole prob is weld in patches of steel, but do i need to take out the headliner and attack the rust from the underside too? i really would like to just leave it alone and hit the topside with mad rust bullet er somthin.... Any advice well appreciated. Thanks

Yes!!!!! You will ruin the headliner in the repair process, no matter how you do it.

If you don't remove the headliner and sound deadener prior to welding the roof your car will end up in flames and you won't have to worry about the rust!

Not sure. But I know he has a choice of fixing and repairing his problem or patching it. If he repairs it, he is through. If he patches it, he'll do it again and again and again.

you can repair it the right way and make it a permanent fix... or you can always take some fiberglass and lay it right over the rusted area and then paint over it...but it will look ugly...that is the only way to "fix" the problem with out welding new metal in

the best way is the way they are telling you. if you dont take out the headliner the car will go up in flames... sometimes the easiest way is the harder way. but it is your car and we are only telling you the right way to do things..... in the end you will do what you will...

    good luck

These guys are telling it to you straight. There is absoluly no way you can do any welding on the roof without the sound deadener and headliner going up in flames. Look at it this way; even though the headliner looks good, after a good number of years the stitching tends dryrot. A new headliner really doesn't cost that much to replace. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than having to replace the whole interior or possibly the entire car. You could get away with just fiberglassing the holes shut, but that is only a temporary fix. The rust will still be there and as time goes by, the holes will get bigger. Another thing to consider is that underneath the headliner there is very likely a ton of surface rust on the underside of the roof too. With the headliner out you can attack that problem at the same time. So removing the headliner and welding the holes shut is really the only way to go.

If you are going to just patch it, go ahead. Just don't expect it
to last. Funny thing about rust, it needs to breathe. If you cover
it up, it starts to move around a little faster in my opinion.

    Good luck with your project.(duh)

I have a complete 2dr roof Im willing to part with. I removed it from a 74 parts car. Cut it off at the bottom pillars and at the bottom of the boomerangs. Shipping would probably be OUTRAGEOUS so you will have to pick it up, and by the way, you'll need something big to haul it in..(y)
