So... I made a fairly accurate template at work out of 1/4" plate and was double-checking my measurements after all the holes were drilled. 17/32" for the existing mounting holes and 1/8" pilot/starter holes for the re-location. The problem is the plate must have slipped in the drill-press because the 1/8" pilot hole is off approximately 1/64", even after prick-punching the hole's location before starting. So, instead of being exactly 1" from existing to the new location, it's 1-1/64". Maybe not even that much. This was all done using hand layout. Every other measurement is dead-on. My question: How critical is this measurement/mistake? I figure, because it's dealing with wheel alignment, it's important. At the same time, I wonder how accurate Ford's bolt-hole locations were coming off the factory line in the '70's and that maybe it's not that critical. Advice? Eric
K. Thanks guys. Just needed some positive reinforcement. Catastrophic fruitions averted. However, I still am kind of curious about how accurate Ford's layout points were back in the 60's and 70's for all their various mounting points. Eric
Even if they were dead on 40 years ago, years of use and abuse would have "loosened" those tolerances up a bit by now. I think you'll be fine.
