I plan on doing the shelby drop along with roller perches. I found this on ebay, a wedge kit for the upper ball joint. If the kit is used does it matter that its seating the ball joint lower, or is the kit even needed? Link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Must...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4aa716d446 How much will my front end drop after doing the shelby 1" mod and get the lower 1" 620 coil spring grab-a-trak. I'm guessing total drop will be around 1.25-1.5?
Ithe wedges are for when you go over 1" of control arm drop. I used 620lb 1" drop 64-66 mustang springs and I dropped right at 2.25"from stock with a 1" shebly drop
If you are just repositioning your upper control arms then you won't "need" the wedge kit. One note on the Shelby drop: It was used to improve the front end geometry on the early Mustangs that Shelby performed his magic on. Ford incorporated that change in 1973 production. The Mavericks after that date do not need the drop performed. All they need is to use the alignment specs for the Shelby cars. Caster +1.5 - 3; Camber -.5 - -1.5; and toe of 1/8 - 1/4" with all side to side tolerances held to absolute minimums. The amount of caster you use depends on what steering you have power steering will tolerate more caster (helps keep the car traking the freeway) but manual steering forces increase with caster so just be aware.
Hey Joe is the yellow maverick in the pic lower 2.25? As for my maverick its a 71 mav which I suppose is before the shelby mod in the post 73s.
the shelby drop by itself, if 1", shouldn't lower the car more than about 1/2" or less because the spring perch is located in the middle of the upper control arm. the wedge kit is only needed for drops of more than 1" to prevent the ball joint from binding.like pauls said, you'll probably benefit the most from a performance alignment.http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&source=www.google.comit makes a big difference, probably more than anything else you can do. frank
