If I get a shift kit that changes my automatic transmission to full manual shifting how does that work? I mean most automatic shifters have 1,2,Drive.......if you have a 3 speed transmission how would you shift this? 1-2-D? Or what if you had a 4-speed transmission? Then how would you shift up to the fourth gear? Also how can I be certain how many gears my auto tranny has? I have a '76 Mav with a 200CI I6.
Just think a little; you already have full manuel control. Just move the grear shift from 1 to 2 to 3 instead of leaving it in D. The shift kit only firms the transfer from gear to gear in a C4 3 speed plus some changes in internal pressure etc. Some Mavs in 197o/71 had a full manuel C4s from the factory. This meant that you had to manuelly shift because there was no auto shifting. These transmissions can be IDed by checking for no modulator and no kick down rod.
