I have a 3 speed overdrive D7 transmission I am putting in my '72 Comet GT behind a stock 302 that came out of another '72 Comet GT I owned. The car have been sitting for many years and it is time to get it moving. Is reverse up to the left of 1st gear or down to the right of 4th. I do not have a shift knob to go on the original shifter and would like to purchase one before the shifter bolts down in the car so that I can match the thread pattern.

should be same as on regular Toploader 4 spd. w/stock shifter down to left of 2nd. on my Hurst shifter
it is up to left of 1st.

in thread below yours, by KodyGuy, have youtube video showing shift pattern with stock shifter on 4 spd.

I have toploaders in my '73 Stang conv and my '69 XR7 conv and am familiar with regular patterns. When I bought this tranny(actually have 2 of these transmissions), I should have asked but didn't. Thanks for the input. I will check out the thread you mentioned.

It's down and left of 2nd with a stock shifter. With a Hurst, the lever for reverse is mounted opposite of the stock one moving it up and left of 1st to eliminate shifting into reverse in the heat of battle.
